Lee visited me in New York from Thursday 21 November until Tuesday 3 December. I went to work on the weekdays except 27 and 28 November, which I had off for Thanksgiving. He had some time on his own. On the 23rd he went alone to the Natural History Museum. Together we went and saw a couple of plays, went to the Met, went to MoMA on a Friday night, and walked around the city.
It was really relaxing to have him here. Pat was gone on vacation to Peru so we had the place to ourselves. We talked a lot about the pet caretaking work he is doing. He volunteers with a network which places homeless pets with a particular focus on pets of the deceased. It seems that sometimes people die living only with their pet, and when this happens, the poor animal needs a new home. He also does petsitting and does foster care for animals in transition. From what he tells me some of the people in this line of work keep lots of animals, but for him, he rarely takes any home and then not for long. He always has his own two hamsters.
The day before he left Pat came home and they got to meet.
