There were three contestants and I got reminded of something important at the event.
The game was there there were three of us in front of a crowd who were supposed to eat the most cupcakes in the shortest amount of time. In the end I got last place.
I am biased but I really believe that I ate the most cupcakes. I had this strategy of eating icing all at once, then getting the cake wet so I could compact it and swallow it without chewing. It worked well and I ate a lot of entire cupcakes. The other two contests, I feel, did not eat as much of what was in front of them, but they did a better job of destroying their cupcakes regardless of whether they ate the entire pastry or not.In the end, the audience decided who won based on the appearance of what was left. I was happy to congratulate the other two people because it hit me really hard with something I should have already understood – when giving a presentation, the quality of the presentation is not judged by the performance of the speaker, but by the reception of the audience.
I am so glad that I was able to feel the slight embarrassment of being judged to give a poor performance at a cupcake event, because now when I am giving presentations in offices or conferences I will think hard about what my audience wants to hear rather than what I want to tell them!
Having a learning experience like this is pretty great, and all those delicious confectioneries must have been icing on the cake.
Ain’t that the truth!
Hey,
Big fan. Was wondering if you would be participating in the Greenlake Gobble Munchoff this year?
Drinks after?
