At home with Nandan’s family there have been two surprises. One is the nature of Hindu religion. I never picked up on this before, but it seems to have a focus on what I would call getting minor wishes granted. Things like money, leaps in education, life extention, and good luck are boons granted that I hear of repeatedly.
Another small thing is disapproval over my teachers at Bhasha Bharati based on their fee of Rs 200 (about $4.50) an hour. Nandan tentatively wanted to go visit the teacher on Monday – I will tell Abiji this tonight.
I have no idea what a meeting will do, but I expect it to be a good thing for me. I am aware that I am paying a tourist rate and I am not sure how long I would like to do this. The money is not an issue and I really like the class. However, Nandan tells me that he pays Rs 400 a month to be a in daily, one-hour English class with other students. Probably a foreigner should pay Rs 2000 a month, and I would be paying more than every week if I went more than five days a week, which so far, I have not.
